International Media Company is looking for a Director of Content Standards One of our clients is looking for a senior-level individual knowledgeable in taxonomy, metadata and publishing to support their Global Content Management Council which is guiding CM across multiple business units. This is a NEW exciting role for the organization.

Requirements:
• Degree in library science or other analytical discipline involving data modeling.
• Experience in managing information and in implementing information architectures and metadata standards in a publishing, media or education environment.
• Knowledge of popular metadata standards and their applications. Familiarity with the development and use of taxonomies and controlled vocabularies.
• Ability to think logically and analyze complex processes and issues.
• Ability to communicate complex and technical issues to people who are not fully aware of the issues, and to do so with empathy and clarity in both written and verbal form.
• Excellent planning and project management skills and the ability to deliver work to agreed objectives and timeline.
• Ability to facilitate discussions, chair meetings and reach consensus.
• Enthusiasm about education and publishing fields.
• Ability to build great working relationships.
• Some travel is required for this role.
Responsibilities include:
• Lead the definition, development and management of company’s metadata standards and ensure they support current and new product models
• Support and lead the GCMC group in delivering its objectives in 2008 and beyond.
• Lead the standards committee: review membership, agree on charter and priorities.
• Report progress, recommendations and priorities to GCMC.
• Be a point person for training, creating best practices and joining industry standards bodies.
• Work with product development teams to define metadata and taxonomy requirements.
• Identify the skills required within each business group to effectively design and run the defined content standards and help find and recruit the skills needed to fill these gaps.
• Help business units to build taxonomies that are consistent with the company’s overall approach.
• Identify and recommend metadata and/or taxonomy best practices for the firm.
• Monitor competitors’ metadata standards and practices.
