November 2008: The Role of Taxonomy in Creating a Reference Site

 Download November 2008: Search Integration

Cost: 50$

Description:

Paul Wlodarczyk will talk about truly integrated enterprise search is a challenge.  Users of enterprise search expect the simple and seamless user experience that Google has brought to the web.  However, this is difficult within the enterprise because information is created, stored, and managed within standalone applications, separated by organizational silos, and lacks consistent organization and metadata to drive relevant search results.  This presentation will explore how combining a search integration framework with a unified approach to taxonomy management can create an enterprise search platform that delivers highly relevant search results in a conversational user experience.

Then Seth Brewer will talk about a company with 30,000 employees recently developed an intranet space to assist employees with finding products (office supplies, rental cars, etc.) and services (research, conference planning, etc.) Meta-data was used to define each subject and their associations to related policies, procedures, contacts, etc. The meta-data then becomes a description of the taxonomy which search uses to build the navigation structure. Results are presented as complete web pages with full navigation and links to all related materials. Because the content is organized via tagging, it can be sliced and diced to build multiple taxonomies.

Main Points:
• Using content-managed meta-data to create relationships
• Building navigation structures using search
• Delivering dynamic, taxonomy driven pages via portal
