Session 1: Making the Business Case for Search

This introductory session will cover the big picture issues and challenges surrounding the findability of information.

We will talk about how context is key and why “just getting a good search engine” is an oversimplification of the problem. We will discuss how to make the business case, demonstrating the value of effective search. We will also present common challenges in search deployment projects.

Session 2: Search Nuts & Bolts
Thursday, April 24th

Learn about the nuts & bolts of search tools and how to choose the right search strategy/application for your needs.

We will cover various classes of technology and review the differences between metadata based search, full text search, rules based approaches, various statistical approaches, Bayesian analysis and linguistic and semantic analysis.

Session 3: Intermediate Topics in Search
Thursday, May 1st

This session will cover issues in implementation, building search applications, and measuring/fine-tuning search systems.

Search deployment and tuning requires a great deal of time and attention. Best bets, rules based approaches, training sets, taxonomy integration and content system integration are not necessarily “out of the box” or plug and play. Learn about search engine optimization and customization.

Session 4: Advanced Search Strategies
Thursday, May 8th

Learn about advanced issues in enterprise search and find out what's on the horizon.

This final session will cover issues of integration and globalization, as well as search analytics for diagnosing problems with search. We will also discuss topic maps and other future developments. What is the effect of the semantic web and ontology management? How can advanced tools improve search recall and precision?
