TechTarget: 15 top applications of artificial intelligence in business
Aug 28, 2024
TechTarget SearchEnterpriseAI published an Article "15 top applications of artificial intelligence in business" on August 6,2024, featuring Seth Earley as an AI expert. Article overview: The use of artificial intelligence in business is now mainstream, with many organizations implementing AI as a standalone technology for specialized use cases or embedding it within common enterprise software systems that handle core business processes. Investment in AI continues apace. A March 2024 pulse poll of 250 technology leaders by professional services firm EY found that 82% of tech business leaders plan to increase their AI investment in the next year. Nearly two-thirds (64%) of respondents said their company had instituted internal development programs to help employees keep pace with the rapidly evolving features of generative AI, and 76% said their companies also have internal certification programs in generative AI for employees. While the executives surveyed by EY had concerns about the difficulty of hiring AI talent and expressed the need for more AI regulation, they were largely positive about AI in their organizations: 72% said their employees are using AI at least daily in the workplace. The top use cases were coding and software development, data analysis, and internal and external communication. TechTarget interviewed AI experts and practitioners on how companies are applying AI. Key Takeaways Envision a future where virtual assistants seamlessly integrate into daily life, assisting with tasks like scheduling, recommendations, and customer service. The primary barrier to achieving this vision is a "knowledge and data problem," not the technology itself. Data sources are not well-curated, and organizational knowledge is not codified. Organizations compete based on their knowledge of customers, markets, and internal processes. Virtual assistants (chatbots) need access to this knowledge to be effective. Companies must build content processes now to avoid being left behind. Lack of investment in knowledge management could lead to significant inefficiencies and competitive disadvantages. Successful digital transformation requires executive vision and long-term commitment. Short-term financial pressures can undermine these initiatives. Companies need to build foundational applications and curate their data effectively. Gamification and clear communication can help alleviate fears of job displacement. Making Better Decisions: Leaders in Data Podcast Welcomes Seth Earley As Guest
Apr 19, 2024
Seth joins host, Ryan Sullivan, to share his take on data strategy, information architecture, and leveraging data for business outcomes. Seth also dives into the significance of intentional information architecture, semantic models, and knowledge graphs for improved decision-making. It’s an adventurous episode you don’t want to miss! Listen now. Key Takeaways Effective decision-making starts with a clear definition of business objectives and desired outcomes, prioritizing them over mere reliance on tools or processes. By emphasizing objectives, decision-makers can align strategies more closely with overarching goals, enhancing the likelihood of successful outcomes. Establishing a robust foundation centered on semantic and data architecture is essential for maximizing the efficacy of technology within any organization. By prioritizing semantic clarity and solid data structures, businesses can enhance their ability to harness technology for strategic advantage. Leaders should recognize that data is merely a tool that needs a purpose. Without understanding the specific needs and strategy of the business, data can't be used effectively. Creating a comprehensive framework for managing data, knowledge, and content within the organization is crucial for optimizing processes and enhancing decision-making capabilities. By establishing such a structure, businesses can ensure efficient data flow, facilitate knowledge sharing, and empower informed decision-making at all levels. Letting an ontology serve as the infrastructure for the organization's data can transform it into a formidable knowledge graph, enabling more precise retrieval and application of information. Leaders and communicators should stay informed on the latest in knowledge architecture and data strategy through books, seminars, and workshops to keep their organization at the forefront of efficient and effective data use. Focus on the actions and strategies that will provide the most significant return on investment (ROI) by asking the critical question of how specific data use aligns with and supports the broader business strategy.
