Product Supply Chain Architecture
Challenge
This scientific instruments manufacturer wanted to improve its web presence and customer experience by building an agile state-of-the-art content management solution that positioned it effectively in a competitive marketplace and facilitated a closer relationship with its customers. It needed to create a system architecture across MDM, PIM, DAM, and CMS with effective search capabilities. The company wanted to integrate the multi-channel delivery of content to various publishing channels, including print, eCommerce and the web. The constant change in product assortment and availability, as well as frequent acquisitions, made having strong change management a necessity.
Solution
Earley Information Science informed system design by defining the path of data and metadata flowing between systems. They identified and defined a Taxonomy Management System (TMS) as an authoritative source for systemic updates to other parts of the data supply chain (including PIM, CMS, DAM, and Search) through workflow and use case development. The team also facilitated the selection of PIM, DAM and TMS vendors based on prioritized requirements and a recommended integration approach.
Results
The choice of a standalone TMS ensured accurate change and metadata coordination by integrating with other systems and eliminating the manual processes that result in errors and mistakes.
